Multi instrumentalist, Chyke Martins is stopping at nothing to show the world his music prowess. He plays the clarinet, flute, saxophone and Oja, a native Igbo musical instrument.
The multilingual music graduate of the prestigious University of Lagos, Nigeria speaks up to 5 different languages including Spanish, French, German, English and Igbo, spoke to Back My Work during the sit down session, about challenges with his health and how it led him to discover his talent.
When he broke his leg in 2005, he was unable to move for a long time and bedridden for over two years. At this point, he had lost all faith and hope until in 2008 when he stumbled upon the saxophone.
He joined the choir in his Church, and after gaining experience playing in Church, he joined a band called Emergence, where he played at many gospel and secular concerts, and worked with artists in these scenes. He also plays sax lines for artists, and has done for the likes of Bionic and Davido.
Speaking about his upcoming musical project, the instrumentalist said, “The title of my current project is called ‘Twilight’. I contemplated calling the project ‘Breath’ because the project has to do with my instrument (the saxophone) and how I need a lot of breath to blow into them to play, but it is actually called “Twilight” because I am waking up and becoming a new version of myself.”
Chyke Martins is trying to reinvent himself as an artist who loves what he does, and does something brand new. He implores his fans to anticipate and support his project because it would be awesome.
