Days to go
I am KKC, a multiple award-winning singer, writer, songwriter, and guitarist, and I am learning to play the drums and piano. I have written over 300 songs, 200 poems, and hundreds of articles. I have recorded over 10 original songs, 9 of which have been released to the general public (Smiling at my Phone, Muse, Your Youth, Jontolonto, True Love, Falling, All Rounded Teacher, Baby Jo, and Smiling at my Phone Remix). I have two music videos to my credit (Smiling at My Phone and Muse), which are all available on YouTube. My genre of music is a fusion of Afro-beat, R&B, pop, and soul.
I started playing the guitar when I turned 13. It was a birthday gift from my parents, and I was ecstatic at the time, playing around with the strings and trying to produce meaningful sounds from strumming it. I had been writing songs and poems long before then, since I was 7 years old, so having the guitar fueled my writing spirit, and I wrote tons of songs on my guitar.
Inspiration for me comes in many forms, from music to art to daily experiences and many more. I just have to see something or have an experience, and the music comes flowing. I try to put myself in other people’s shoes, feel what they feel, see what they see, and hear what they hear, and make beautiful music out of it. For me, music is life and my way of communicating with people. My songs are very deep, convey a lot of emotion and passion, and reflect the deepest parts of my being.
Typically, it takes me about 10–20 minutes (sometimes less) to write a whole song from scratch, without any beats or if I am using chords on my guitar. I have the gift of speed writing. If given a word or context, I can write a whole song or poem in a few minutes. Writing for me is a form of escape into a deeper reality; it helps me be myself and express myself without limits or borders.
I like performing on stage and virtually because my face and body convey the message of the songs I sing.
Being able to share my music with the world is something that truly excites me, and it is a journey I am always eager to embark on.
About The Project
My project is my first studio EP titled ‘To All the Ones I Ever Loved’, which is basically a tribute to past relationships, heartbreaks, and people who meant a lot to me at different points in my life. The EP is filled with varying emotions and tries to show that life really is in stages, and at each stage we meet different people in our lives who may not necessarily be there to stay, but to teach us certain lessons and be a part of our journey onto the next stage.
I talk extensively about heartbreaks and giving my all to people who never returned and took me for granted. I talk about almost falling into depression because of all the things that were happening at the same time and trying to find myself, meaning, and purpose in life again. I talk about losing friendships, making new ones along the way, and never stopping in my quest for finding true love, because no matter what I go through, the ability to love is never taken away from me and yet grows stronger with each break my heart feels.
It will consist of 4-5 Afro-RnB songs, which I intend to be as groovy as they are emotional, with high-quality sounds and top-notch mixing and mastering from the best engineers and producers in Lagos. I want people to reminisce about memories that shaped them and their emotions when they listen. Regardless of whatever we feel or how many times we get hurt, love will always prevail and find a way if we are patient, in tune with ourselves, the universe, and our emotions, and never stop believing.
